This year's present for friends

… was going to be homemade vanilla extract, but the bottles I ordered did not arrive yet. This was the alternative present. White chocolate with roasted almonds and dried cherries. Mmmmmmm :-)

More baking!

Lots of baking. Since Greta and Santiago were going to grill sausages in the forest today, they needed some moe gingerbread cookies to take with them. Good we still have lots of dough. So before the breakfast Greta started baking:

And decorating:

And so they were gone, and Samuel and me had to do some house cleaning :-) So hop on my back, dear!

The happy boy became sleepy right after vacuum cleaning the house and washing the floors.

And when she was back, she had to decorate the gingerbread house just a bit more.

A new week starts tomorrow, have a good one.

The backcarry

Today I realized how much I missed this: you wrap you baby good on your back, turn on some lovely music and head to the kitchen - to cook.

You make some cookies. This recipe works great.

Half an hour later you baby is still snuggled on your back and you can eat some of your cookies. :-)

And when he wakes up, he makes you even happier with his smiles.

 Have a great weekend!

Baking Sunday

Sometimes I feel like an energizer bunny. Ore the days just became so long? Anyway, check out this polar bread and the apple pie. Yummy! And after putting your kids to bed, go for a 6 km run in the fresh autumn air :-) I did!

Climbing without climbing

Today there was an organized event for kids to try climbing. Greta did not want to climb, but it was fun to watch other kids though. But it was fun to use the knife of the wooden sticks and to carve her name on it.

We also had a dessert there, since I made some almond cake and blueberry muffins. Enjoyed the forest and the fresh air before sending Greta to bed.

… and then I had to take the second piece :-)

Squash cake

Can you imagine a squash cake to be so delicious? Really, try this recipe. Santiago still does not know it was a squash cake, and even he liked it, even though he is not the cake person. I am looking forward for tomorrow for Greta to try it, she had to go to bed before it was finished. The topping has lime juice, and it contrasts so well with the insides of the cake.

Bread

I like to bake bread (sometimes), especially when it involves mixing different types of flour. Mmmm, it smells deliciuos. This is not a no knead bread, but equally good. Test it you too, the recipe here.

Summerly dinner

The weather is great, and it is goint to be like this still for another week. I don't remember such a great summer without any rain for more than two weeks! I am in love with Norwegian summer. Even does not matter that we work, we still have this fantastic mornings for walking to work in a fresh morning air, and incredible summer evenings.
Two days ago I started making a bread. Why 2 days? Because it is no-knead bread. And yesterday we baked it, and made the garlic butter. So finally today we made the garlic bread while Santiago grilled some prawns and haluomi. Recommend you this recipe for garlic bread. Wonderful smell in the kitchen for two evenings guaranteed!

Have a good weekend. We are definitely having a great one, more details later! :-)

The Christmas day

Merry Christmas to everybody!
We had a nice evening yesterday, just us in our little family, very informal and relaxing day.
This morning we remembered that we completely forgot to make the gingerbread house this Christmas, so Santiago and Greta got their hands on it while I went to church for the Christmas mass.
The rest of the day was cozy, too. A walk in the fresh snow, playing with the new presents, reading new books and trying on the new clothing. Santiago even tested his present when he went skiing with his new pants and jacket.
Continue having great vacation!
